GEORGIA DYMOCK
Octopus Hat. 2024. Oil on linen. 160 x 110 cm.
In ‘Octopus Hat, 2024’, the protagonist is inspired by the menacing character of Ursula from ‘The Little Mermaid’.
I like drawing inspiration from art history in my practice, in this painting, the dolphins reference Raphael’s ‘The Triumph of Galatea’ (1512), where a dolphin is caught biting into an octopus.
In 'Octopus Hat', I mirror this tension, depicting characters caught in a moment of pulling or biting, or on the verge of doing so, creating a dynamic interplay between aggression and play.
