Two-Faced. 2024.170 x 140cm. Oil on linen.

‘Two-Faced, 2024’ is inspired by the myth of Medusa, but most importantly by Natalie Haynes's reimagining of the character in her novel ‘Stone Blind’ (2022), where the author explores the dual nature of Medusa as both victim and "monster."
While Medusa is typically feared as a terrifying figure with serpentine hair, I intend for the snakes in this composition to be ambiguous and almost playful, subverting the traditional associations of snakes with evil. This tension is enhanced by depicting two snakes in a gentle, kissing gesture, with this, I hope viewers to question the duality of monstrosity and empathy.
